About London International Guitar Competition
The mission of London International Guitar Competition is to encourage excellence in the performance of the classical guitar, with a special accent on new music for guitar. The Semi-Finalists and Finalists will play a new piece specially commissioned by the International Guitar Foundation for London International Guitar Competition. London International Guitar Competition is open to all classical guitarists up to the age (and inclusive) of 30 years at the time of application.
How does it work?
The first round began May 2016. Contestants apply by emailing a copy of their passport, their latest curriculum vitae and a PayPal payment receipt code. It costs £50.00 to enter and once the first round is open there will be a PayPal button to make the payment.
The online round will consist of the contestant uploading a video of themselves to YouTube performing the set piece. Upon application contestants must supply the URL link to their video which will be uploaded to the London International Guitar Competition Facebook Page and YouTube site. The expert jury will award the first five places for the Semi-Final, and the sixth place will be awarded to the video with the most likes on the London International Guitar Competition Facebook Page.
The Semi-Finalists will be announced on Friday 1st July 2016, and will be sent the new set solo guitar piece by Graham Lynch on Friday 16th September 2016 which must be prepared for the Semi-Final.
The Semi-Final will be held on 21st October at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Final will be held at Milton Court on 22nd October from 7.30pm as part of London Guitar Festival 2016! Contestants must ensure they are available for these dates before applying.
For the Semi-Final successful contestants will perform a 20-minute recital which will include the set piece. The rest of the 20-minute recital is free choice.
For the Final, successful contestants will perform a 30-minute recital of a new 5-minute new piece for orchestra by Graham Lynch and Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez.
London International Guitar Competition will arrange and pay for accommodation in London 20 October – 23 October, however we do not cover travel expenses.
